This quote has always inspired me. As a family photographer, it reminds me of how important the relationship is between photographer and subject, and how important it is to understand people before you pick up the camera. This awareness and sensitivity is especially important when photographing children – you need to genuinely connect with somebody, if you want to capture their natural expressions, or create an atmosphere where somebody feels comfortable enough with the photographer to let their guard down, comfortable enough that they will let you catch a glimpse of who they really are.
